International Crossbow-Shooting Union - IAU

Welcome to the official website of the IAU, International Crossbow Shooting Union, the worldwide sports public organization that is in charge of “Field” and “Match” crossbow shooting!

The IAU (the abbreviation from German - "Internationale Armbrustschützen Union") was founded in 1956 in Switzerland. With its office located in Croatia, the IAU organizes biennial World and European championships, annual World Cup Events and other International competitions. The International Crossbow Shooting Union comprises two divisions: “Field” and “Match”, both spectacular and exciting. “Field” discipline is similar to WA whereas “Match” resembles ISSF rifle program. Some countries participate in both divisions’ competitions, while others are just “Field” or “Match” division members.

Crossbow shooting is a fascinating and technically challenging multi-disciplined target sport. It is also a sport rich in history and traditions, having roots in many different cultures around the world. Its rich 60-year history accounts for 20 World and 13 European championships as well as a huge number of international competitions.

Since crossbow shooting is a non-Olympic sport, the goal of the IAU is to make it an official event at the World Games and the European Games. Therefore, one of the main IAU objectives is becoming a member of SportAccord (formerly known as GAISF - General Association of International Sports Federations). The IAU current membership comprises 27 member countries in Europe and Asia. Consequently, one of the directions of the IAU development is to build-up its membership level to the required number of countries (40 on 3 continents) in order to be accepted as a member of SportAccord (GAISF).

On this website you will find information about the IAU crossbow shooting disciplines, our international competition programs, rules and regulations, get to know the athletes from the IAU national federations, learn in detail about our organization structure
as well as a lot of interviews, news, photos and video reports. If you are a beginner in this sport, you are very welcome to ask us questions and become an active member of the IAU Crossbow Family.

We hope you’ll consider our website both interesting and informative.

Best regards,

Pero Stojnić, the IAU President
