Our dear Yoshiaki Sugiyama is gone

Rest in peace, dear friend!

Dear friends,

Our crossbow family lost one of the great legends of our sport.
Our dear Yoshiaki Sugiyama (JPN) is gone. A dear and cheerful man, a true lover of field crossbows, has left us. He performed at competitions even in his advanced years.
Yoshiaki became interested in crossbow as a student in the 1970s. He joined the Japan Bowgan Shooting Association in 1971 and was always the top shooter in Japan.
1983 at the 3rd IAU Match Crossbow Bad Homberg Germany Yoshiaki was a member of the Japanese team. It was at this event that the IAU recognized Field Crossbow shooting. Yoshiaki was involved with the preparation of new Field rules.
He placed eighth in the IAU World Championships field division in 1994. At the IAU World Championships in Switzerland in 2008, he was 6th in the senior competition and third in the 50m distance.
At the Asian Championships, he won medals in everything.
We will never forget him as a cheerful, smiling athlete and a great man. He always wanted to help. He had a good word for everyone.
Our thoughts and best wishes go to his family and friends.
