Edwin Hirte

Dear friends of crossbows, we have lost a valuable family member. Edwin Hirte has passed away.
A true crossbow enthusiast, Edwin combined his life with our beautiful sport.
Until 2009, Edwin held the responsible position of crossbow leader and coordinator for the German Shooting Association for 17 years. He was an indispensable member of the Visier 59 Shooting Club. He was a respected expert in interpreting crossbow rules in the IAU, and for one term, he was also the IAU Vice President for Europe.
He liked to say:
- At all the competitions I attended, there were always exciting moments and funny encounters that motivated me to work for crossbow sport and to support our sport.
- I was pleased when championships were successfully held in Germany. But every medal taken was also a success for the whole team. I consciously include the helpers and supervisors on our trips.
Our crossbow family lost one of the great legends of our sport.
Our thoughts and best wishes go to his family and friends.

Greetings Card

During the Holiday Season, more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our progress possible.
In this spirit, we sincerely thank you and best wishes for the Holiday Season and a happy New Year!
Members of the IAU Executive Committee Josef Beckmann, Andreas Henne, Christian Hunzinger, Jaroslav Liptak, Violetta Shishorina, Pero Stojnic, Dragutin Vrbek.

Shooter of the Year 2024 – Match Division

The Match Division of the IAU is happy to announce the Shooters of the Year 2024!

In the 30m discipline, the big crystal globe has been awarded to Monika Hurschler (SUI). Her consistent performance placing her regularly close to the top of the results lists and the first place in the World Cup Finals qualification earned her the most points in the final ranking and therefore the honour to take the globe home this year.

In the 10m discipline, after aggregating the points earned by athletes in the ladies and men categories, the lead of Dimitri Dutendas (FRA) was obvious. Twice unbeaten at the World Cups and a very high placement in the World Cup Final qualification, makes Dimitri the deserved winner of the other big crystal globe.

Sincere thanks also to Mr. Peter Ďuriš from Sklovakia glassworks for the wonderfully designed and produced Crystal Globes.

Click here for the results, check here for the actual and final 2024 rankings and look also here for the photos provided by Robert König (SUI).

The IAU congratulates the winners, thanks all organisers, athletes and other members of the crossbow family - and declares the 2024 international season closed. We are looking forward to meet you with new motivation and enthusiasm in the 2025 season!

Second day of World Cup Final Match – Last Awards of the Year

With the 10m distance qualifications and finals, the last decisions in the category of women and men brought an end to the waiting for knowing the best of class worldwide.

In the ladies category, all strong nations provided at least 2 participants to the final, so that almost everybody expected the crystal globe going to France, Switzerland or Germany. But no, the only 17 years old Julia Hirner from Tyrol, Austria, resisted all attacks from her experienced rivals and proved that her results consistency, despite not having so many starts over the season, was not a coincidence. This way the only Austrian participant in the finals took it all and made her home club of Münster happy and proud.

Gold medal and the small crystal globe for 10m women: Julia Hirner (AUT)

Silver medal: Jolanda Prinz (GER)

Bronze medal: Alexandra Geng (FRA)

The category of men showed the same potential of surprise, having Jakub Novák (CZE) as the only Eastern European representative along the participants from the traditional Western countries. But this time, Dimitri Dutendas (FRA), kept the control over the entire course of the final match. Despite a 9 at the beginning, he scored only 10s till the very end, leaving the rest of the field falling off shot by shot. For Dimitri, this was a well-deserved crowning of the season, leaving him with a world record 399/400 and also with the big crystal globe for the Shooter of the Year 2024 in 10m discipline.

Gold medal and the small crystal globe for 10m men: Dimitri Dutendas (FRA)

Silver medal: Jakub Novák (CZE)

Bronze medal: Moritz Blumtritt (GER)

World Cup Final Match Crossbow Strasbourg: We know the first winners

The IAU Match Division gathered in Strasbourg for the last event of the year – the World Cup Finals in 30m and 10m disciplines.

First day was dedicated to shooting on the 30m distance, 30 shots in standing position and 30 shots in kneeling position. With almost no wind and pleasant light conditions, the day promised a smooth competition; but the cold morning with 10°C took its toll and made the standing results lower than usual. Kneeling part was done, after a break, in warmer conditions. So, no world records on this day.

At 3pm, best 8 shooters from the qualifications entered the final part of the competition, shot in an elimination mode after the 10 shot initial series. This time there were no German participants in the final part, so the decision was to be made between Switzerland and the host country, France.

Winners of the 30m World Cup Finals:

Gold medal and the small crystal globe: Joëlle Baumgartner (SUI)

Silver medal: Michaël Dhalluin (FRA)

Bronze medal: Sarah Hügli (SUI)
